Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Bodin George Kading, 18, faces eight criminal counts after police located him hiding in a 15-year-old’s bedroom.

A Vergas, Minn., teenager is facing eight criminal charges, including second-degree rape and first-degree burglary, after Watertown police found him hiding in a 15-year-old girl’s bedroom on Oct. 1, 2026.

Bodin George Kading, 18, appeared in the Third Judicial Circuit Court for an initial bond hearing on Oct. 2, 2026, and is scheduled for an arraignment on Nov. 18, 2026. Defense attorney Timothy Cummings represents Kading, while prosecutor Alison Trauba represents the State of South Dakota.

A Codington County Grand Jury officially indicted Kading on eight counts:

·         One count of second-degree rape (Class 1 Felony)

·         One count of first-degree burglary (Class 2 Felony)

·         One count of sexual contact with a child under 16 (Class 3 Felony)

·         Two counts of solicitation of a minor (Class 4 Felony)

·         Two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor (Class 6 Felony)

·         One count of possession of marijuana under two ounces (Class 1 Misdemeanor)

The Watertown Police Department began investigating the case on Sept. 30, 2026, after the victim's father reported a suspected inappropriate relationship involving his daughter. The step-father discovered messages and the exchange of explicit images between the 15-year-old and Kading via social media and a school email account. Email communications indicated Kading planned to travel to the residence that evening.

Later that night, the victim's mother observed Kading on a home security camera actively entering the residence through the 15-year-old's bedroom window. Officers surrounded the home on the 3300 block of 17th Ave SW. Officers made entry and located Kading hiding under the covers in the victim's bed.

Police transported Kading to the Watertown Police Department, where he confessed to having sexual intercourse with the victim on the night of Sept. 29, 2026. During the interview, Kading admitted he knew the victim was 15 years old. Kading stated he entered the home through the window without parental permission with the explicit intent of having sexual intercourse. Kading returned on Sept. 30, 2026, with the same intent, though no sexual intercourse occurred during the second visit before police arrived.

Magistrate Judge Gary W. Schumacher found probable cause and set a $50,000 cash bond. Bond conditions require Kading to remain in South Dakota, sign an extradition waiver, and maintain a distance of at least 1,000 feet from the victim, her family, her residence, and her school. Kading is also strictly prohibited from having unsupervised contact with any minors.
