Northeast Radio SD News – Hayti, SD - Emergency responders were called to a residence in Hayti early Friday morning after a large tree collapsed onto a house, damaging the structure and bringing down live power lines.


At approximately 7:36 a.m. on April 3, 2026, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hayti Fire Department were dispatched to the 500 block of Redbird Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered a large downed tree that had struck a home and a deck.


The collapse also brought down an electrical service line connected to the residence. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the line remained energized and live until local power company crews arrived to shut off the electricity safely.


One individual was inside the home when the tree fell. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported following the incident.


Emergency personnel remained on the scene throughout the morning to secure the area and mitigate the electrical hazard.
