Northeast Radio SD News - Aurora, SD - A 20-year-old Jefferson, South Dakota man sustained serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning near Aurora, according to a media release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
The accident occurred at 2:32 a.m. on November 1, 2025, in the area of 476th Avenue and 210th Street. The BCSO, Aurora Fire Department, and Brookings Ambulance were initially dispatched after receiving a vehicle crash detection alert.
Upon arrival, a deputy located a white 2020 Chevy Silverado K1500 truck upright in a creek bed. The driver, identified as Jake Gale, 20, was found on the creek bank waving down the deputy.
Gale was transported to Brookings Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls with a broken vertebra, a broken arm, and other minor injuries.
Due to initial uncertainty about the presence of passengers, the BCSO utilized a drone equipped with a Forward-Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera to scan the surrounding area. The search confirmed that Gale was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The on-scene investigation determined that the truck was traveling northbound on 476th Avenue, between 210th Street and 211th Street. The driver reportedly failed to negotiate a curve on Deer Creek Road, causing the vehicle to enter the ditch and ultimately come to rest in the creek bed.
Agencies responding to the scene included the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Police Department, Aurora Fire Department, and Brookings Ambulance.
The incident remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the BCSO at 605-696-8300 or contact Brookings Area Crimestoppers anonymously by visiting www.brookingsareacrimestoppers.com or calling 605-692-STOP (7867).
