Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - The South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the state’s largest law‑enforcement association, has formally endorsed Congressman Dusty Johnson in the 2026 race for Governor.

The endorsement was announced Thursday, with the FOP citing Johnson’s long‑standing support for public safety, his work with frontline officers, and his commitment to addressing what the organization describes as South Dakota’s “broken parole system.”

“Throughout his career in public service, Dusty Johnson has shown a steadfast commitment to supporting law enforcement, strengthening public safety, and standing with the men and women who serve our communities every day,” the FOP said in its statement. “We believe Dusty Johnson has the experience, character, and vision necessary to lead South Dakota forward.”

Johnson said he was honored to receive the endorsement and emphasized the need for reforms within the state’s criminal‑justice system.

“In every conversation I’ve had with law enforcement officers across this state, it is clear South Dakota can do better,” Johnson said. “We must fix our state’s broken parole and probation system. We need to increase offender accountability, and we need strong leadership to address these issues before it puts our communities at risk.”

The South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police represents more than 1,400 active and retired officers across federal, state, and local agencies.
