South Dakota Secretary of State Names Ayden Calvert Recipient of 2025 John Lewis Youth Leadership Award

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - South Dakota Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson announced that Ayden Calvert has been selected as the recipient of the state’s 2025 John Lewis Youth Leadership Award. The award recognizes a young leader who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to civic engagement, community service, and integrity across South Dakota.
The John Lewis Youth Leadership Award was established by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) to honor exceptional youth who dedicate themselves to advancing positive change through leadership and public service, in celebration of the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis.
"Ayden Calvert embodies the spirit of service, courage, and civic responsibility that Congressman Lewis represented," said Secretary Johnson. "Ayden’s leadership reflects the values of perseverance, kindness, and participation that strengthen our communities and our democracy. We are proud to recognize his achievements and contributions to South Dakota."
The Secretary of State's office will formally recognize Calvert during an upcoming meeting at the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre.
The announcement highlights the importance of youth involvement in public life and the commitment of young South Dakotans to fostering positive change. The award serves as a beacon, encouraging civic-minded individuals to step forward and serve their communities.
