Vehicle crashes through Watertown Municipal Airport fence after leaving Highway 20; one taken to hospital

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Watertown Fire Rescue responded Saturday afternoon after a vehicle left Highway 20, crossed the median, and crashed through the south fence of the Watertown Municipal Airport.

According to WFR, crews were dispatched at approximately 1400 hours for a report of a vehicle that had gone through the ditch and into the airport property. When the engine company and ambulance arrived, they found a small SUV inside the airfield a short distance beyond the fence line. Both the vehicle and the fence sustained minimal damage, and no hazards were reported.

Ambulance personnel evaluated one patient at the scene. That individual was transported to Sanford Hospital for further medical assessment.


Watertown Police, Watertown Municipal Airport staff, and Watertown Fire Rescue all assisted with the incident.
