Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown city officials have officially authorized the submission of the 2025 Annual Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) report, following the first state audit of the program in over two decades.
City Engineer Justin Petersen presented the item to the council Tuesday night, noting that while the report is an annual requirement, recent scrutiny from state regulators prompted several localized updates to the city’s stormwater protocols.
“Each year the city must submit a report for our MS4 activities,” Petersen said. “This year the state performed an audit for the first time since its inception in 2004. There were a handful of items that they wanted us to improve on or update, which we have done already, and it’s reflected in the report.”
The MS4 report tracks the city’s efforts to manage runoff and prevent pollutants from entering local water systems. Petersen noted that the state-requested updates were handled promptly by city staff.
With no further questions from the council, a motion to authorize City Manager Alan Stager to sign the report passed unanimously.
