Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - Watertown is set to transition its city-owned land into more profitable ventures following the approval of two separate resolutions of intent to lease real estate Tuesday night.

The first lease concerns an airplane hangar at the Watertown Regional Airport, with local operator Andy Wick assuming a lease previously held by Watertown Motor Ford Company.

The second, and more significant change, involves city-owned agricultural land being leased to Lyle Both, doing business as L&J Farms and Ranch. Assistant City Manager Ian Merryweather explained that the city is moving away from low-yield haying permits in favor of a more active farming approach.

“This will bring substantial revenue that is desperately needed,” Merryweather told the council. “We are departing from just haying the land to a mix of farming and haying as well.”

Both resolutions indicate the city’s intent to proceed with the agreements, with final approval pending a formal public hearing.
