Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Development Company (WDC) has officially announced the return of its Intern Engagement Program in 2026, a strategic initiative designed to integrate young professionals into the local community.
Central to this year’s program is the “Passport to Watertown,” a curated interactive tool provided to local employers to help their spring and summer interns navigate the city.
The program aims to transform a standard internship into a comprehensive community experience. By using the Passport, interns gain access to:
· Local Activities and Events: A guide to seasonal happenings across the city.
· Exclusive Discounts: Reduced rates at various area businesses.
· Professional Networking: Opportunities to build social and career-focused connections within the region.
“The Passport to Watertown is a great way for interns to experience the community while fostering a sense of belonging and connection,” said Angie Yahne, Director of Economic Development Project Management at the WDC.
Career Opportunities at WDC
Beyond supporting local businesses, the WDC is leading by example by opening its own Economic Development Intern position for the Summer of 2026. This role provides hands-on exposure to workforce initiatives, community engagement, and regional economic strategy.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should visit the Watertown Development Company website under the “Workforce Career Opportunities” section. Applicants must download the official employment application and submit the completed form via email to sgiang@wdcsd.com.
Building a “World-Class” Workforce
This engagement program is a key pillar of the WDC’s broader goal of growing, retaining, and developing a high-tier workforce. By creating a welcoming environment, the organization hopes to encourage young professionals to view Watertown not just as a temporary internship site, but as a permanent place to live and work.
Local companies interested in receiving Passports for their current interns or learning more about the program are encouraged to contact Angie Yahne at ayahne@wdcsd.com.
