Watertown Motorcyclist Hospitalized After High-Speed Crash Near 7th Avenue SE and 5th Street SE

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - A 22‑year‑old Watertown man was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital Friday night after a high‑speed motorcycle crash near the intersection of 7th Avenue SE and 5th Street SE, according to a media release from the Watertown Police Department.

Police were dispatched at approximately 9:08 p.m. to the report of a motorcycle down with injuries. Officers determined that the rider had been traveling northbound on 5th Street SE on a blue 2002 Suzuki motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle turned in front of him from 7th Avenue SE. The rider braked hard to avoid a collision, causing the motorcycle to tip over.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, sustained only minor injuries and was transported by ambulance for treatment. Speed is believed to have contributed to the crash, and the rider was cited for careless driving.

Traffic in the area was briefly disrupted for about 20 minutes while first responders cleared the scene. Watertown Fire Rescue and Performance Towing assisted police.

In the release, Patrol Corporal Tylor Griffith reminded drivers to watch for motorcycles and encouraged riders to use proper safety gear, including helmets.
