Watertown Dolphins Compete at State Qualifying Meet; Results Heading to Championships

Watertown Dolphins' swimmers showcased their skills at the State Qualifying Meet, earning spots in the upcoming championships.

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Area Swim Club (WASC) Dolphins hosted their final home qualifying meet of the season from February 6–8, 2026, at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center. The event was the final opportunity for local athletes to secure qualifying times for the upcoming South Dakota State Championships.


Key Roster Performances

Photographer Avah Grismer captured several of the Dolphins’ key competitors in action during the three-day event. Among the notable swims:


·        Sofia Bass competed in the 200-yard Butterfly, a high-endurance event that requires consistent pacing across eight lengths of the pool.

·        Becca Meland represented the Dolphins in the 50-yard Butterfly, a sprint event focused on explosive speed and a clean finish.

·        Dylan Kasparek and Paul Feist both took to the blocks for the 100-yard Individual Medley (IM), an event that tests a swimmer’s proficiency in all four competitive strokes.

·        Jay McAreavey was also featured, showcasing the start-off-the-blocks that set the tone for the Dolphins’ weekend.


Season Milestone

This meet marks a significant transition for the club as it enters the postseason. It also coincides with the final season for Coach Kathy Antoine, who has been a staple of the Watertown swimming community for years.


Looking Ahead

With the qualifying marks now finalized, the Dolphins will prepare for the postseason championship circuit:


·        12 & Under State: February 20–22 (Aberdeen)

·        13 & Over State: February 26 – March 1 (Mitchell)
