Watertown Police Department Honors Active Towing with Community Partner Award

Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Police Department has recognized Active Towing with the 2025 Community Partner Award, highlighting a collaborative effort that strengthens local law enforcement training and safety.


The award was presented to Keith Peterson of Active Towing by Police Chief Tim Toomey and members of the department. The recognition is part of an annual initiative by the Watertown Police Department to honor individuals and businesses that provide outstanding service and significant contributions to the community and the department’s core value of partnership.

According to a commendation letter from Chief Toomey, Peterson has consistently gone above and beyond by donating vehicles to be used for firearms and SWAT training. Beyond donating the hardware, Peterson also volunteers his time, fuel, and equipment to transport and retrieve the vehicles for these specialized exercises.


“His generous contributions... directly enhance officer training, safety, and preparedness,” Toomey stated in the official recognition.

Active Towing expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, noting the importance of the relationship between local businesses and first responders. In a statement following the presentation, the company shared they were “beyond honored” to receive the award and remains committed to working side-by-side with the department to assist with community needs.


The Community Partner Award serves as a testament to the vital role local businesses play in supporting Watertown’s infrastructure and safety.
