Northeast Radio SD News - Watertown, SD - The Watertown Police Department (WPD) has announced the recipients of its annual community awards, recognizing several local individuals and businesses for their exceptional contributions to public safety and community engagement.
The honors, which highlight the department’s focus on community partnerships, were awarded to Kyle Lalim, Active Towing, Roy’s Sport Shop, and long-time volunteer Kathy Feltch.

Commitment to Service and Youth
Kyle Lalim received the Community Partner Award for his consistent support of law enforcement personnel. Lalim is noted for preparing a full Christmas meal annually for officers and dispatchers working on the holiday. His involvement also extends to regional charitable efforts, including the Polar Plunge and various Fraternal Order of Police activities.

Roy’s Sport Shop was also honored with the Community Partner Award. The local business was recognized for its investment in Watertown’s youth, specifically through contributions to local sports programs. The shop offered a significant discount on equipment for the WPD’s “Triple Play Challenge,” an initiative designed to foster positive relationships among children, families, and law enforcement.
Training and Operational Support

Active Towing was recognized for its direct impact on officer preparedness. According to the department, Keith Peterson has consistently donated vehicles for use in firearms and SWAT training. Beyond donating the vehicles, Peterson volunteers his time, fuel, and equipment to transport and retrieve the cars, providing the resources necessary for high-level tactical training.

Decades of Dedication
The department also highlighted the continued service of Kathy Feltch, who served as a WPD dispatcher for 24 years before her retirement in 2018. Since leaving her official post, Feltch has volunteered more than 200 hours at Camp Chance, assisting with the program’s annual preparations and supporting campers. Department officials noted that her ongoing commitment remains a valued presence within the agency.
WPD stated that these awards are intended to recognize those who utilize their own resources to enhance the quality of service provided to the Watertown community.
