Watertown Post 17 Drops Doubleheader to Brandon Valley

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - Watertown Post 17 came up short on Wednesday, falling in both games of a road doubleheader against Brandon Valley Post 131.


Game 1: Brandon Valley 12, Watertown 4

Brandon Valley opened the night with a 12‑4 win, powered by a 12‑hit performance and a strong outing from starter Jack Blomgren, who struck out eight despite issuing eight walks. He held Watertown hitless during his appearance and allowed three runs.


Blomgren also led the Brandon Valley offense, going 3‑for‑4. Other key contributors included:

·         Brayden Knutson: 2‑for‑4, 3 RBIs

·         Max Peters, Ryder Mueller, Cooper Veld: 2 hits each


Watertown managed just two hits — one each from Carter Buisker and Sam Olson, with Olson driving in two runs.

Tripp Jorgenson took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings. Kooper Heiser and Ashton Rabine worked in relief.


Game 2: Brandon Valley 10, Watertown 6

Watertown rallied to tie the second game 6‑6 in the fifth inning, but a four‑run sixth by Brandon Valley sealed a 10‑6 defeat.


With the game even in the bottom of the sixth, Brandon Valley broke it open with:

·         A two‑run single from Max Peters

·         A bases‑loaded walk to Bryton Stroh

·         A hit‑by‑pitch that forced in another run


Stroh finished with four RBIs, while Peters added two hits and two RBIs.

Will VanLeur earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit. Starter Matthew Henkelman threw 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Watertown’s offense was led by Markus Pitkin, who went 1‑for‑2 with three RBIs.

Additional hits came from Olson, Buisker, Cain Everson, and Jaxon Falak.

Hunter Halajian took the loss, striking out seven while allowing 10 runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
