Watertown Resident Lois Hart Named SDCTE Author of the Year

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - The South Dakota Council of Teachers of English (SDCTE) has selected retired professor Lois Hart as its Author of the Year. The award recognition was slated for the SDCTE’s annual conference awards luncheon on June 8, 2026, at the University of South Dakota Student Center in Sioux Falls.


SDCTE Secretary Vicky Gleason nominated Hart for the accolade. Accepting the honor on Hart’s behalf was her sister, Jane Miner. During the event, Miner delivered Hart’s speech and distributed free books to all conference attendees.

A Legacy in Education and Literature

Hart’s distinguished background spans decades of both teaching and writing:


·         Growing up in Watertown during the 1950s, Hart uses these early memories as inspiration in her books.

·         She obtained her teaching degrees by attending Huron University and the University of Maryland.

·         Her teaching career included over forty years of instructing English and World History at Mount Marty College.

·         She currently resides in Watertown and is a mother to three children and a grandmother of nine.
