Watertown’s Teddy Berglund Receives Outstanding Citizen with a Disability Award
Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - A familiar face around Watertown has received one of the community’s highest recognitions for disability achievement and advocacy. Teddy Berglund was named the recipient of the Outstanding Citizen with a Disability Award, presented in conjunction with National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The award recognizes individuals who have overcome challenges, advanced independent living, and contributed meaningfully to their communities. Organizers said Berglund exemplifies those values through his daily work, volunteerism, and constant engagement with residents across Watertown.
Watertown Mercantile Company posted that Berglund works five days a week at Planet Fitness and three days a week at Godfather’s Pizza inside Cenex, where he has developed strong workplace skills and takes pride in being part of the local workforce. He also serves as the official greeter at Watertown Mercantile Company, where his friendly personality has made him a well‑known presence.
Beyond employment, Berglund participates in Special Olympics, attends Watertown Arrow sporting events, and regularly visits local auctions and community gatherings. Supporters say his enthusiasm for meeting people and staying active reflects the spirit of independence the award is meant to honor.
“Teddy is an outstanding example of how individuals with disabilities can achieve greater independence, contribute to their communities, and lead meaningful and active lives,” the award announcement stated.
