Watertown Woman Arrested for DUI After Rear-End Crash Sends Driver to Hospital

Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - An 18-year-old Watertown man escaped injury Monday night after his vehicle was rear‑ended in an alcohol‑related crash that sent another driver to the hospital.
Watertown Police and Watertown Fire Rescue were dispatched at 8:17 p.m. to the 1300 block of 1st Avenue NE, where a blue 2017 GMC Terrain had been stopped in the roadway waiting to make a left turn. According to the police department, the Terrain was struck from behind by a beige 2001 Buick Century.
A 24-year-old Watertown woman, identified as the driver of the Buick, was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with serious but non‑life‑threatening injuries, police said. She was later arrested on multiple charges, including DUI 2nd offense, Careless Driving, Failing to Maintain Financial Responsibility, Failing to Use Seat Belts in the Front Seat, and Open Container, Broken Seal in a Motor Vehicle.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for roughly 30 minutes while crews cleared the scene. Agencies responding included the Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, and Active Towing.
Police used the incident to remind drivers of the importance of wearing seat belts and never operating a vehicle while impaired.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
