Northeast Radio SD News – Watertown, SD - A pair of juveniles were taken into custody early Monday morning after a multi‑county pursuit involving several law enforcement agencies along Interstate 29.
The incident began around 3:28 a.m., when the Moody County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with a northbound pursuit entering Brookings County. Deputies and Brookings Police located the fleeing vehicle — a stolen Ford F‑550 work‑style truck with a dump bed reported stolen from the Sioux Falls area — and continued the chase north.
According to responding agencies, the driver was swerving at other vehicles in an apparent attempt to force motorists off the roadway. A Deuel County Sheriff’s Deputy successfully deployed spike strips, blowing both front tires and causing them to come off the rims. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued northbound.
As the pursuit entered Codington County, deputies from Codington County, the Watertown Police Department, and Tribal Police joined the response. The chase ended near Exit 180, where the driver lost control, and the truck became stuck in the ditch. Officers conducted a high‑risk stop and detained both juvenile occupants without further incident.
The juveniles were transported to the Codington County Detention Center, where staff confirmed both had run away from McCrossan’s Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls.
The juvenile driver faces multiple charges, including aggravated eluding, DUI (1st offense), open container, possession of a stolen vehicle, and driving while suspended. Additional charges from other jurisdictions may be pending. No injuries were reported to the public, officers, or suspects.
The case remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, and Codington County Sheriff’s Office.
