Northeast Radio SD News – South Dakota - As winter weather approaches, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is teaming up with the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the National Weather Service (NWS) to host a Pre-Winter Travel and Safety Webinar for the public.

The online event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (CT) via Zoom.

The webinar aims to provide essential information to help residents and travelers prepare for the upcoming winter season, blending weather outlooks, operational updates, and crucial safety tips.

Key Topics for Public Safety

Attendees will hear directly from experts on several critical topics:

· Winter Weather Outlook: Forecasters from the National Weather Service will provide the official 2025-2026 winter weather outlook, giving the public a preview of expected conditions.

· SDDOT Operations: The SDDOT will share the latest updates on its snow and ice operations, detailing how crews will work to keep roadways clear and safe throughout the winter.

· Variable Speed Limit System: A primary focus will be the new Variable Speed Limit System (VSLS). This innovative technology, which was recently installed on a stretch of Interstate 29 between Flandreau and Brookings, adjusts posted speeds in real time based on weather and road conditions to improve safety and reduce crashes.

· Safe Driving Tips: The South Dakota Highway Patrol will offer practical, safe winter driving tips to ensure motorists are prepared to navigate snowy and icy conditions.

The SDDOT encourages all members of the traveling public to attend the informative session to learn about the resources available to stay safe and ahead of the storm.
