The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced that sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in 16 counties across the state during October. The planned checkpoints will take place in the following counties: Brown, Brule, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Edmunds, Jones, Lake, Lawrence, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Sanborn, Stanley, and Yankton.

As of September 26, South Dakota has reported a total of 74 human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV), according to the latest data. The cases span 30 counties across the state, and tragically, four fatalities have been attributed to the virus.

The Bramble Park Zoo is preparing to release three rehabilitated bald eagles back into the wild on Saturday, October 4, at 1 p.m. The release event will take place at Thompson’s Point on Lake Pelican, offering the public a chance to witness the birds' return to their natural habitat. The Watertown Public Works Department is set to start work on the 2025 Intersection Improvements Project at the intersection of 10th Avenue NE and US Highway 81, beginning Monday, September 29. The project scope includes reconstructing the roadway to install a turn lane. This will require the closure of 10th Avenue NE from US Highway 81 to 7th Street NE. The work is scheduled to be completed by October 4, pending any unforeseen issues and weather conditions.
